Rescue team volunteers come to aid of walker in Swaledale

Members of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) came to the aid of a walker in Swaledale today.

The 66-year-old man slipped while passing through stile near Gunnerside.

Rescue controller Steve Clough said: “He heard a crack from his right ankle and was unable to walk any further.

“His friends and family called police and SMRT responded, treating the casualty’s injuries on the hill before stretcher carrying him about half a mile to a waiting ambulance.

“We wish casualty a speedy recovery.”

The walker was well equipped for the terrain and weather, Steve added.
