Emergency services carried out a difficult rescue operation at Aysgarth Falls after a woman fell onto rocks and became trapped in low-level water beneath the waterfalls.
The incident happened at around 12pm on Sunday.
Crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service stations in Hawes and Bedale attended alongside specialist water rescue teams from Richmond and Ripon.
Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team was also called to assist with what it described as a “technical rope rescue” involving a casualty in the water.
Fire crews said the casualty had fallen onto rocks at the bottom of the falls and was unable to move.
Using specialist working-at-height equipment, firefighters accessed the woman via an embankment before ambulance crews reassessed her condition at the scene.
Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team said that following the ambulance service assessment, rescuers used “a simple rope system up the fire service ladder” to help recover the casualty safely from the water.
The woman was secured onto a longboard before ladders were used to navigate her safely up the embankment and into the care of paramedics.
She was later taken to hospital by road ambulance.
Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team praised the response from all services involved, describing it as “great joint work with all agencies”.
