Members of the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) were called out to rescue a walker stuck on stepping stones.

The incident happened at a crossing over the River Ure at Slapestone Wath, neat Swinithwaite, in Wensleydale, at the weekend.

SMRT said the walker became trapped on the stepping stones and was unable to “self rescue” due to the slippy conditions and fast moving water.

The walker was assessed on scene by an ambulance service crew and was rescued by SMRT volunteers using their water rescue boat.

SMRT has launched a fundraising campaign to raise £80,000 for an incident command vehicle.

More than £15,000 has already been donated.
