Rescue volunteers were called out today to reports of vehicles stranded on the Buttertubs because of snow.

North Yorkshire Police called out members of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) following reports that drivers had got stuck on the pass between Swaledale and Wensleydale.

They were attended by two SMRT volunteers who were out skiing in the area and checking for a suitable venue for winter training.

The rescuers checked the occupants were okay before the snow plough arrived to clear the route.

The rest of the team remained on stand in case they were needed.
