Several residents have reported receiving a call from a man claiming to be the politician.

Richmond resident Tony Reddington received a call on Friday.

The man said he was the MP and asked if he was going to a fireworks display the following day.

Mr Reddington said he immediately hung up on the caller suspecting it was a hoax.

The resident said he then called the MP’s office who confirmed they had not made the call.

When Mr Reddington posted details of the call on social media other residents said they had received similar calls.

One woman said a man claiming to be the MP had called and asked her if she was going to church this weekend.

Another person said the man rang her and also asked if she was going to a fireworks display.

A spokesman for Mr Sunak said the calls had not been made by the MP or anyone from his office.

The spokesman said they had reported the hoax calls to North Yorkshire Police.
