Residents warned about disruption to recycling banks

Council officials have warned about delays to empty recycling banks due to staff shortages caused by Covid-19.

Richmondshire District Council says that due to staff shortages caused by positive results and self-isolation, there will be disruption to the normal emptying of bring banks within Richmondshire both today Friday and Monday.

There will be a crew out tomorrow to try and empty already overflowing sites, and an extra crew will be sent out on Wednesday to help rectify this situation.

A council spokesperson said: “The bring banks – which provide a location to recycle separated materials become full very quickly.

“We urge Residents not to use these sites over the next few days if they are already full, and to take their recycling home.

“Please do not dump your items next to the banks leaving a mess.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you.”

The council said many items including glass, cans, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard could be recycled in kerbside collection boxes, which would be collected as usual.
