A group of self-employed and professional women from across Richmondshire gathered together last week to hear Lucy Pittaway share her journey to becoming the award-winning artist and business women she is today.

The Summer Drinks event was hosted by Dales Business Women, and was a mix of networking, food members’ stalls, before Lucy Pittaway took to the stage.

She gave an honest insight into her life before taking the leap of faith to become a full-time artist.

Her account of how being a full-time artist was always something that lingered in the back of her mind but didn’t seem like it could be a reality, left the audience, a number of whom were creatives themselves, truly inspired.

Sharon Davis, founder of the network, said events like this are crucial for women in business: “Lucy Pittaway is a great example of an ordinary, local woman who had a deeply held longing to be a professional artist, and through hardworking and faith in herself, she has now made her dream a reality.

“There are many self-employed women who may want to scale up but perhaps lack the confidence, funds or the know-how to take the plunge, and I hope that events like this will inspire them to move forward in their businesses and careers. It was a pleasure to have Lucy join us for our Summer Drinks.”

The event was open to members and non-members and over £150 was raised for Lucy Pittaway’s charity of the year, Scope.

The next Dales Business Women events are in Hawes and Richmond in September.
