A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the bench was completely destroyed.

“Crews used one hose reel to extinguish and the cause was believed to of been deliberate,” they added.

Alyson Down, community safety officer for Richmondshire, said the incident had been reported to the police.

She said individual seen close by at the time was not a young person, but a lone older male in a hoodie.

She said the description was similar to the person sought following a similar arson attack near Culloden Tower last year.
