Richmond cafe owner plans skydive to raise money for Christmas fair

Richmond's Christmas lights.

A Richmond businesswoman is preparing for a skydive to raise funds for the town’s Christmas fair.

The fair, taking place this year on Sunday, December 7, is organised by a small group of volunteers giving up their time and is run on a not-for-profit basis.

All money raised through sponsorship and donations goes towards the cost of staging the large-scale community event.

Wendy Robinson, of Granny’s Kitchen, in Finkle Street, is a driving force behind the organisation of the event.

She also happens to have a fear of heights!

Wendy said: “Last year we organised a Christmas Fair for our beloved town, Richmond, in a very short space of time and started with a big fat zero in our bank account.

“This year our plans are bigger and better and require funding!

“A skydive has always been on my bucket list, so I thought I would self-fund it to raise money for our Christmas Fair as well as trying to banish my fear of heights.”

The skydive on July 21 coincides with Richmond’s first ever Christmas in July event taking place from July 19 to 25.

The coffee morning at Richmond Town Hall on Saturday, July 19 will be another fundraiser for the Christmas Fair.

Everyone is welcome and to mark the occasion there will be Santa hats, mince pies and maybe even a Christmas carol or two.

The Green Howards Museum will be holding a mid-year celebration full of festive cheer, family fun, and a little bit of history.

Shops in Richmond are also invited to join in with Christmas in July by having a Christmas theme in their window displays.
