Residents at a Richmond care home enjoyed a trip to the ‘seaside’ recently, after team members transformed the home for a special seaside day.
Care UK’s The Terrace, at Maison Dieu, created a beach-themed room for residents, friends and families to enjoy, alongside seaside staples such as ice cream, and fish and chips.
Team members and residents were joined by children from Rooftops Montessori Nursery in Richmond, to share in the coastal celebrations, which saw the home decorated with inflatable seagulls, beach balls, sand and sunshine.
To add to the fun, team members dressed for the occasion in 1920s seaside costumes.
Home manager at The Terrace, Nicola Wilkins, said: “Lots of residents regularly talk fondly of how much they enjoyed seaside holidays and trips to the beach in their younger years, so here at The Terrace, we decided to bring the beach to them.
“We are always looking for innovative ways to involve residents in activities and encourage friendships across the generations. The seaside day provided a great opportunity to enable all residents, especially those who would find it difficult to visit the seaside in person, to participate in the fun.
“We have a close relationship with Rooftops Montessori Nursery, so were delighted to welcome them to enjoy the seaside too. The communication, interactions and affection between residents and the children was heart-warming to see – they loved spending time with each other.”
