A cricket club from Richmond has signed a deal with a car hire firm – and they’re hoping to sign another with an open-top bus company at the end of the season.

Richmond Mavericks CC – who are now sponsored by Enterprise Car Hire in Northallerton – finished second in the Wensleydale Evening Cricket League last year.

Had they finished first, they planned to take an open-top bus round all 16 Wensleydale League venues.

They couldn’t get over the line in 2018 – but are hoping to go one better in 2019.

Skipper Fabio Sartini said: “The prospect of touring the beautiful villages of Wensleydale with the trophy in our hands is a great motivator.

“We might even stop at a pub or two on the way.”

Enterprise regional manager Steve Walder said: “Sadly we specialise in hire cars and vans, rather than open-top buses, but we wish the Mavericks a great season!”

The Mavericks are made up of Richmond residents and ex-Richmond School pupils. Their home games take place on Wednesday evenings at Richmondshire CC.

The team were formed in 2001 and have played in the Wensleydale League ever since.
