Richmond welcomed residents and visitors for a weekend of celebrations as the town marked Yorkshire Day before hosting its first-ever Food Festival.
Saturday’s Yorkshire Day celebrations centred on Richmond Town Hall, where a community coffee morning offered homemade cakes and refreshments.
The Market Place also hosted an extended market featuring local traders selling Yorkshire produce, crafts and gifts, while entertainment throughout the day included Zumba demonstrations, Morris dancers and appearances by the town crier.
Families took part in a range of Yorkshire-themed activities, including Yorkshire pudding and spoon races and wellie wanging, which made its debut at the event.
One of the day’s highlights was the Yorkshire Pudding Competition, judged by the Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Clive World.
The winners were:
- Largest Yorkshire Pudding: Edwina Cakes at The King’s Head
- Tallest Yorkshire Pudding: Cllr Carl Tate
- Best Overall Yorkshire Pudding: Cllr Loo Morton
The competition entries were later shared with visitors, served with homemade onion gravy.
On Sunday, the Market Place was again busy as Richmond hosted its inaugural Food Festival.
Food producers, artisan traders and local businesses took part in the event, while live entertainment ran throughout the day.
The festival was organised by Richmond Town Council’s Market and Community Committee, supported by town clerk Heather, councillors David Routledge and Carl Tate, Chris, and a team of volunteers who helped organise and run the weekend.
Mayor Cllr Clive World officially opened the Food Festival and spent time meeting traders, residents and visitors.
Organisers thanked everyone who supported both events, including traders, performers, volunteers and the many people who attended across the weekend.
Following the success of the Yorkshire Day celebrations and the town’s first Food Festival, organisers say they are already looking ahead to next year’s events.
