The first heavy-weight clash of the season saw Richmond Town Reserves take on rivals Richmond Mavericks on Saturday at the Dave Clark Arena.
The teams finished second and third respectively last season, but will both be aiming to head the table come May next year.
In their first encounter it was Richmond Mavericks who came out on top however with a 4-2 win.
After taking an early lead through David Andrews, Jamie Metcalfe scored a second for Mavs with a header.
Town got back into the game through Harry Beresford before the break.
However, a second-half brace from George Battersby secured the points for Mavs, with Beresford getting a late consolation for Town.
Elsewhere, Carperby dominated the first half in their game away at Reeth.
The visitors took the lead when Paul Stephenson swung in a dangerous corner which went straight into the goal via the back post.
A second goal came when Matt Readshaw played an excellent ball through from right back that Sam Lambert raced onto before rounding the Reeth keeper.
Carperby got a third when Ben Metcalfe headed home before the break.
Both teams had chances in the second half but failed to convert them, with Carperby pleased to keep a second consecutive clean sheet.
Three goals inside the first ten minutes made for a frantic start to the Spennithorne v Catterick Garrison game.
Sam Maddison scored for Catterick after just three minutes, with Paul Harmsworth then netting a minute later.
Damian Hargreaves put Catterick ahead on nine minutes.
Hugo Brown later equalised for Spenni, only for Jez Mortimer to get the winner for the visitors in the second half.
Unicorn made it two wins in two with a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Hawes.
Thomas Calvert got Hawes’ goal with five minutes to go.
The Wensleydale League has a new main sponsor for the 2021/22 season with Bellerby-based Scotts for Storage taking over the role from the Wensleydale Creamery.
