Richmond Mavericks are through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup after beating Tockwith on penalties.

It capped a busy week for Mavs whose game against Richmond Town Reserves last Wednesday was abandoned after their player Ryan Howe dislocated his elbow.

The game against Tockwith finished 3-3 after normal time.

Sam Pickersgill put the Richmond team ahead from the spot before the visitors pulled one back from a free kick.

Pickersgill got his second before the visitors hit back again against the run of play.

The striker then got his third from the spot only for Tockwith to level with second to go.

Mavs keeper Ethan Lansdell was the hero in the shootout, saving the visitors’ fifth penalty to secure the win.

Back in the league, Mavs beat Richmond Buck 6-1 on Tuesday night ahead of what could potentially be a league title decider against Unicorn on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the league, Hawes beat in-form Carperby 2-1 at the weekend.

Carperby started the brighter and took the lead when Adam Spence was fouled in the area and Scott Lambert slotted home the penalty.

Carperby went into half-time deservedly in the lead, but Hawes started stronger in the second half, winning more first and second balls than the visitors.

Hawes deservedly equalised when Jordan Iveson found some space on the right to burst forward and pull the ball back for Thomas Wallis to finish into the bottom corner.

Hawes got the winner late on when Carperby’s defence failed to spring the offside trap, with Jonathan Spivey capitalising.

Unicorn cemented their position at the top of the table with a 7-0 demolition of Leyburn.

Liam Reeves got a hat-trick, with Luke Dent, Tom Keegan, Steven Richards and Jamie Diamond also getting on the scoresheet.

Colburn played Richmond Town Reserves at Earls Orchard on Saturday in the league seeking revenge, having been summarily dispatched in the Medals Shield a couple of weeks ago by the same opponents.

Things didn’t start well though for Colburn, when after ten minutes the bobbly pitch caused Nige Cole to miss the ball, allowing Harry Beresford to put Richmond one up.

The second half started off better from Colburn, and after 53 minutes Steve MacDonald played the ball through to Joe Woodall, who finished smartly to equalise.

Richmond had an effort that crashed back off the bar before another unfortunate slip from Cole allowed Beresford to put Richmond back in front with his second of the game.

However, Woodall was in the right place after 82 minutes to receive a pass from Stuart Murray and ensure the points were shared.

In the only other league game, Catterick Garrison and Reeth played out an entertaining 4-4 draw.

Garrison’s goal scorers were Stephen Fleming, Jez Mortimer, Liam Walker and Sanny Lingthep.

Will Horner got two for Reeth, while Scott Alderson and Ryan Atkinson also netted.

Finally, in the Dales Cup on Tuesday night Richmond Town Reserves beat Spennithorne and Harmby on penalties after the game finished 1-1.

Scott Ryan equalised for Spenni after Own Kelly had given the Richmond team the lead.
