A Richmond music venue is facing closure less than a year after it opened.
Maria Smith, leaseholder at The New Comrades (TNC) in Newbiggin, has told customers she can no-longer continue operating.
In a statement issued on the club’s social media, she said she was having to stop trading due to “reasons beyond my control and a family member with ill health”.
She added: “The New Comrades will no longer be trading.
“I am endeavouring to find a new lease holder to continue to bring life, music and community events within TNC.
“It is with regret and sadness that I am unable to continue to provide this service to you.”
Maria thanked customers and people who had helped with the opening of the venue last year.
The premises, which was formerly known as the Comrades Club, reopened last September as a live music venue.
The plan was operate as a cafe bar during the day.
Once the downstairs was up and running, it was planned to offer studio space upstairs for musicians, photographers, dance groups and other community organisations.
Plans for a youth club and regular bingo night were also discussed.
