Richmond prepares to celebrate heritage with festival programme launch

Richmond is preparing to celebrate its rich past as the programme for this year’s Heritage Open Days Festival is officially launched.

As part of the celebrations, The Green Howards Museum will host a special talk in the Normanby Room on the joys and pitfalls of researching family history.

The free session will offer practical tips for those tracing their roots, while also highlighting some of the challenges that can arise.

Places for the talk are limited and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite.

Steve Erskine, researcher at the Green Howards Museum, said: “Heritage Open Days are a wonderful opportunity for people to come together and explore the stories, skills and traditions that have shaped Richmond.

“We are delighted to contribute to the programme with a talk that connects local and family history.”

The museum is also encouraging people undertaking their own research to share their experiences, with staff keen to learn from the stories of others.
