A Richmond pub is celebrating inclusion in the Good Beer Guide as work continues to make the town centre venue more family friendly.

It is further recognition for The Buck Inn, in Newbiggin, Richmond, which has also received Cask Marque accreditation for its real ale and become members of Timothy Taylor’s Champion Club.

The pub was taken over by Fiona and Paul Hadden in 2017.

Paul still works for the Ministry of Defence at Helles Barracks in Catterick Garrison and Fiona runs the pub full-time.

Fiona said the couple were making wide-ranging improvements at the Buck.

“My background was in teaching and telecoms and we both worked in the pub industry part and full time for five years prior to taking on the Buck Inn. This is our first pub that we are running for ourselves.

“We have changed the offering of the pub from one that was known for late night drinking to one that is more family friendly and now have a kitchen operating from Thursdays to Sundays offering home cooked food.

“We still have a great sports offering with both Sky Sports and BT Sports. We also have two ladies’ darts teams, a men’s darts team, two pool teams and a football team.

“The beer garden has been developed with new seating and border areas. We are looking to offer early evening outdoor music for next summer season.

“We are looking to redecorate the bar area, bringing a fresh feel and comfortable feel to the main bar. We also want to develop the snug area into a more useable bar area.”
