A road in Richmond was closed this morning after snow caused several accidents.

Police decided to shut Gallowgate after a number of minor collisions on the hill.

Staff from Richmond Fire Station, which is based off the road, stated on social media that motorists were driving too fast for the conditions.

Heavy snow has fallen across the district this morning, making for treacherous conditions on the roads.

A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for much of the district until 3pm today.

Forecasters say they snow will give way to rain and sleet by the afternoon.
