Richmond Rotary Club donates £500 to refugee support group

Richmond Rotary Club has supported the work of Richmondshire Refugees Support Group with a donation of £500.

For the last five years the support group has helped local refugees from Syria and Afghanistan to the settle into the community.

The group’s work extends from offering practical advice and support, friendship and a welcome to the community, bridging cultural differences and in particular providing language assistance.

Jos Huddleston, the president of Richmond Rotary, presented the money to David Walker, from the support group, at a celebration at Richmond Town Hall which was attended by families from the Syrian and Afghan communities and volunteers.

Commenting on the donation, Jos Huddleston praised the work of the support group.

“Rotary Clubs the world over bring people together and support communities.

“I believe that an important aspect of this event for Richmond Rotary Club will be in forging links with the support group, and I hope that this donation will be the start of a support partnership for the future.”
