Richmond Rotary Club welcomed Jim Gleave, head of Marrick Priory Outdoor Education Centre, as the guest speaker at a recent meeting.

He spoke about the centre’s work providing residential outdoor education experiences for schools and youth groups.

He explained how Marrick Priory offers a range of short residential courses, giving young people the chance to take part in adventure activities such as canoeing, wall climbing and abseiling.

For some children, he said, these opportunities prove to be truly life-changing.

At the end of the evening, Rotarian Richard Gibson, organiser of the club’s annual art exhibition, presented Marrick Priory with a cheque for £550. Mr Gleave welcomed the donation, confirming that the money will be added to the centre’s bursary fund to help individuals who are unable to afford the full cost of a residential stay.

Rotary president John Morton said: “This is a great example of Richmond Rotary Club helping our local community. Using funds raised from our excellent annual art exhibition to support the work of Marrick Priory makes great sense for everyone and especially benefits the next generation.”
