Richmond School and Sixth Form College student Victoria Lapthorne is already enjoying considerable success on the national tour circuit as she competes in her 10th year.
The 17-year-old, of North Stainley, is also part of the national Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence tennis scheme which examines every aspect of elite sport, from technique to psychology and nutrition.
“I am hoping to turn pro after university and in the meantime am playing tournaments all over the country,” she said.

“I would love to see where tennis takes me and make a career of it. I’m planning to study sports psychology and performance at university because succeeding is about being physically and mentally strong.”
Assistant head teacher Leslie Richardson said: “It is great to see that Victoria has thought so carefully about her future and where her passion for tennis could take her as either a competitor, sports psychologist or coach.
“This is a very smart approach to life, which is a trait we try and encourage and engender in all of our students.”
