Richmond signmaker shortlisted for industry award

A Richmond signmaker has been shortlisted for an industry award for artwork used on a motorbike.

Eyecatching Signs are finalists in the British Sign Association’s 2017 awards in the wrap of the year category.

The shortlisted design is for a comic book design for a Harley Davison motorbike ridden by Cameron Fairburn, who does work experience with the company once a week.

Steve Steve, owner of Eyecatching Signs, said: “We were asked to do a Marvel comic wrap for a local army customer.

“As a result of that Cameron asked if we could look at doing something on his motorbike.

“We worked on the design and layout and looked at how best to get the image to work on the different areas of the bike. The panels were all from comic books and we turned them to black and white while picking out certain frames.

“We used the wrap as a training exercise and did the tank a couple of times to get Cameron up to speed on how the vinyls work. I then helped him on the more tricky areas.

We then laser cut and domed the Harley Davison logo but change it to Harley Quinn – the fictional super villain in DC comics.”

Steve added: “We have done some massive wraps this year but the Harley has been shortlisted due to the technical skill needed to wrap a tank.”

The winner will be announce on November 9.
