Richmond slimmers lose combined weight of 115st

Hannah Davenport from Scotton, has lost one stone 10lb since the campaign began. Here's her before and after the campaign.

Richmond Slimming World groups are looking forward to a happy New Year after losing a combined weight of over 115st as part of a challenge to slim down.

Members of the Richmond Slimming World group dreamed of a light Christmas and a great start to 2018 when they embarked on their seasonal slim 11 weeks ago. And now their winter weight-loss wishes have come true.

The challenge was part of a campaign called Believe…in a Slimming World Christmas, which ran across all 18,000 Slimming World groups in the UK and Ireland.

It aimed to help the organisation’s 900,000 members enjoy their best Christmas and New Year ever and show everyone that it’s possible to lose weight with Slimming World, whatever the time of year.

The slimmers in the Richmond groups launched the campaign in October and set themselves mini targets to achieve by December 25.

Now they’ve thrown a Christmas cracker of a bash to celebrate their success in achieving their goals and staying on track throughout the festive period.

Charis Blease, who runs the groups, says she is extremely proud of all of the slimmers.

She adds: “In October we asked everyone to think about what they wanted to achieve by Christmas – what would be the best Christmas gift they could give to themselves this year – and write it on a special gift tag.

“Everyone’s wishes were different, from weight-loss targets like losing a stone or reaching their target weight to other ‘non-scale victories’ such as fitting into a certain outfit, being able to do something with their family for the first time or feeling good about themselves. Whatever it was it reminded members how important their weight loss was to them and helped to keep them focused throughout the run up to Christmas.

“The weeks leading up to Christmas are extremely busy for most of us, extra occasions and commitments can play havoc with our regular routines making it harder than ever to manage our weight. Keeping active when the dark, cold nights close in can be a challenge too. Each week in our group we shared recipes, advice and ideas for coping with potential pitfalls, from Christmas parties to shopping trips, and, by sharing ideas and keeping each other motivated, members at the Richmond groups have been able to stay on track and reach their goals.”

Hannah Davenport from Scotton, has lost 1st 10lb since the campaign began, and an impressive 2st 2lb altogether since joining Slimming World in September, picking up her two stone award just days before Christmas.

She said: “I love Christmas and New Year and I was determined not to feel uncomfortable and out of place at family gatherings and parties with friends.

“I can’t believe how different I feel and I haven’t had to do anything drastic either, just make small easy changes to my eating and activity levels. I’ve learned how to make healthy choices and I know I’ve got the tools to be slim for life, so I’m confident I’ll be able to keep it up throughout 2018 and beyond.”

Richmond Slimming World groups are held every Monday, 5.30pm & 7.30pm at The Kings Head Hotel and Thursdays 9.30am, 5.30pm & 7.30pm at Richmond Cricket Club.
