Richmond student publishes Covid-19 help website

The website published by Harry Jolly.

A Richmond student has published a website detailing the help available for local residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

The site — — was put together by Harry Jolly, who is studying digital media at Leeds University.

Harry, 23, is the nephew of St Mary’s Church volunteer Bev Newton, who working with Peter Trewby, recruited the former St Francis Xavier student to help.

Bev has also signed up another Richmond student, Jack Ramage, 23, who is a journalism student at Newcastle University, to check and update information on businesses able to provide services during the crisis.

As well as the website, the volunteers have produced leaflets detailing the help available.

Bev said: “There are two flyers now.

“The smaller A5 is focused on specific support for the vulnerable.

“I am particularly keen to get the smaller A5 leaflet physically into the the letter boxes of the vulnerable across Richmondshire so we especially would like to ask those in villages and rural hamlets to print and distribute this.

If people can do this and confirm where they have distributed, this would be great.

“I would like to thank Rishi Sunak’s office, the Bridge charity and all in the community who have helped by printing the flyers out for the elderly and vulnerable.”

If anyone would like to suggest additions or update the information, or can distribute leaflets, please email [kofi]

  1. This is wonderful , well done these students, for those of us with computers , I-pods etc but many of those in isolation are elderly and vulnerable and do not have access to technology. There was NO Richmond news in the D and S last week ( I was told by an elderly vulnerable friend). Where is our Richmond reporter , in Northallerton I believe.
What can we do for the anxious , lonely people, help is available but how can they find it.
Thank you for all the information you give to those of us who can access it.

  2. Hello Margaret. Bev Newton here. I put this information together and am working hard to distribute in print to those are vulnerable and in isolation. Printed copies are available outside the Town Hall and by phoning 07394 907924. In addition, some local GP surgeries have been kindly sent this by post to their vulnerable patients and I have personally posted many through doors and handed them out to people in town. Our key message is to ask people to print for their neighbours in isolation and put it through their letterbox. We have had several Richmond clubs and societies agree that their members would access the website and do this. If anyone reading this is in rural Richmondshire, I would especially ask you to print off the most updated copies from the website and pass it on. If you Margaret, or anyone else, has ideas on how to help us get the message out, do please call us on 07394 907924 or email us on Thanks again to everyone who has helped us so far.
