Richmond Swimming Pool and Colburn Leisure Centre reopen after lockdown

Richmond Swimming Pool and Colburn Leisure Centre will reopen to the public today following the relaxation of lockdown rules.

Richmondshire Leisure Trust, which runs the facilities, said the decision to allow the sector to relaunch after four months has come as a huge relief to managers and users.

Austin Gordon, manager of the trust, said: “The voluntary managed leisure sector will have a vital role in ensuring the ongoing health and wellbeing of our community following the lifting of restrictions of Covid-19.

“I believe this role has never been more important than at the current time in helping our community regain its health.

“The government acknowledges how important exercise is, and the chief medical officer stated ‘there is no situation, no age, no condition, where exercise is not a good thing’.

“Behind the scenes we have been working hard to implement new systems and procedures and carry out Covid risk assessments.

“Enhanced cleaning regimes, adherence to social distancing along with following the governments track & trace system & increased safety measures are all part of the new systems that have been put into place.

“All staff have received training so that when we open the customer visit will be seamless. We have agreed activity programmes that will run until the start of September and will look at reviewing it should guidance change.”
