Christmas is coming early to Richmond as the town prepares to celebrate the return of its popular Christmas in July festivities.
A packed programme of festive-themed events will take place from Saturday, July 11 to Saturday, July 25.
Visitors to the Green Howards Museum can enjoy a mid-year celebration featuring seasonal shopping, family activities and a touch of history. A wide range of Christmas gifts will be available to buy, while loyalty card holders will receive double stamps in the museum’s gift shop.
Children can take part in a flip-flop museum trail, cracking a code to win a prize, as well as designing a football shirt for Santa, making Christmas in July cards and creating festive tree decorations. Summer Santa will also be making appearances at the museum on Saturday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 15.
The museum’s first Christmas in July event proved such a hit in 2025 that it received a Highly Commended award in the Best Innovation category at the Richmond Business Awards.
The festive celebrations will spread across the town, with Richmond Town Hall’s coffee morning on Saturday, July 18 raising money for this year’s Richmond Christmas Fair. Visitors can expect Santa hats, mince pies and even a Christmas carol or two as organisers encourage people to support the annual event.
Richmond’s Christmas Fair, which takes place on Sunday, November 29, is organised by a small group of volunteers on a not-for-profit basis.
Funds raised throughout the year help cover the significant costs of staging one of the town’s best-loved community events.
A number of Richmond businesses will also be embracing the festive spirit by decorating their shops with Christmas-themed displays and offering seasonal products, giving shoppers an early opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit.
