It was a disappointing afternoon for Richmond Town on Saturday who suffered a 3-0 defeat at current league leaders Gateshead Leam Rangers.

What was always going to be difficult fixture but Jason Newall’s men found themselves two down with just 12 minutes played.

The first of which came in the eighth minute when Leam striker Kain Reed found himself through on goal and after taking the ball around Harry Dowding his cross into the six yard box was converted into his own net by the unlucky Josh Fullerton.

The Town defender had earlier produced a superbly timed tackle to thwart Leam’s first attack of the game having recovered from having given away the ball cheaply.

The lead was doubled when after again giving the ball away, Reed, with still a lot to do produced a good finish beyond Dowding.

Town’s keeper was also called into action producing a finger tip save from Jonny Hirst onto the bar.

Richmond had their moments in front of goal with James Stanger heading a Scott Ryan cross wide and Ryan firing across goal and wide after linking up with Billy Harland.

Richmond who were enjoying a spell of pressure had a glorious chance to reduce the deficit before half-time but Harland missed the target when clean through.

Given the the way his team had finished the the first half, Newall must have been confident of finding a way back into the game, but within eight minutes of the restart the game was as good as over.

A Leam attack wasn’t cleared which ended in another Hirst shot w3hich was helped into the net by Jamie Harland.

From there the game drifted to its conclusion without further incident.

Richmond now concentrate on North Riding Cup competitions for the next two weekends.
