Richmond Town’s walking football team plays first match

Richmond Town FC’s new walking football team has played its first competitive match.

The team played at home at ML Sports on Gallowfields Industrial estate against Hull City Senior Tigers.

Team spokesman Tim Arundell said: “The match was played over four 20 min sessions, on a five-a-side basis, with roll on roll off, for substitutions.

“It was a hotly contested competition, with very small margins between the teams.

“The final result was not important, just the fact that all the players involved knew they had given their all in a highly enjoyable game of football. The winner was walking football!

“After the match all players relaxed in the surroundings of Richmondshire Cricket Club, taking in a top of the table cricket match, with fine food and ale.”

The current age range of players is 44 to 80.

The team runs kickabouts on Tuesday nights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and Thursday afternoons 1pm to 2pm.

New players are always welcome. No experience is necessary.

Other teams wants to play matches should also get in touch.

The team does not yet have a kit and is looking for a local company to sponsor them.
