Richmond’s Company of Fellmongers celebrates apprentices

Richmond’s Company of Fellmongers have celebrated the success of local apprentices.

Four apprentices have been presented with a medal of excellence in achievement and a burgage certificate.

They also received money to purchase items associated with their trade.

Until mid 19th century, young people would serve a seven year apprenticeship and then if successful the mayor would present them with a Burgage Certificate which allowed them to trade freely in the town.

The company says it is proud to maintain the traditions of its forebears and help local young people further their careers.

The association has encouraged employers to put forward local apprentices in the final year.
