Richmondshire business rates collection deferred

Richmondshire District Council is deferring the collection of business rates by direct debit until July to support businesses through the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, the authority announced there would be no direct debit collections in April.

This offer has now been extended to July to ease pressure on cash flows already under pressure through the covid-19 outbreak.

However, the three missed instalments – for April, May and June – will still be needed to be paid later in the financial year.

The full cost for the year will be spread out over the remaining nine months.

No direct debit payments will be requested until July 1 and ratepayers paying by other means will not be pursued for payment until that date either.

Revised business rate bills have been issued to all businesses that are entitled to 100 per cent retail discount.
