Richmondshire businesses make final of Flavours of Herriot Country Awards

Businesses from across Richmondshire have made the final of the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards.

The awards, which have been run for the last seven years, recognise the best food producers, creators and suppliers across the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts.

There has been a record-breaking number of entries this year.

The finalists from Richmondshire are:

Joseph Walsh, from the Wensleydale Heifer, has also made the final of the award for the Young Professional Chef or Catering Student, which will be judged at Darlington College.

Chair of the awards, Irene Myers, said: “We finally reached the closing date for The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards, at midnight, on Friday, August 31.

“And what a record-breaking abundance of top notch entries have arrived, ready for our Chair of Judges, Susie Brindley, and her fellow judges, to go forth to taste, test and digest, ready to make those very difficult decisions – choosing our winners.

“Last year’s Flavours of Herriot Country Awards were simply outstanding, with a record number of entries from across Richmondshire and Hambleton.

“This year that record has been well and truly broken, making us all so proud of the hard working and dedicated businesses in Herriot Country.”

The competition’s principal sponsors are North Yorkshire County Council, with the other main sponsors being Hambleton County Council and Richmondshire District Council.

The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards will be held on Friday, November 30, at The Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn.

They will be presentedby Elly Fiorentini, from BBC Radio York.
