Richmondshire charity seeks volunteers to help families

A Richmondshire charity has launched a drive to find volunteers willing to help local families.

Home-Start Richmondshire’s aim is for every parent to have the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.

A spokesperson said: “Parenting can be tough at the best of times. You need friendship, encouragement, reassurance, and practical help during the early years, when children are young.

“Our volunteers are the backbone of Home-Start Richmondshire. They give their time, care and commitment bringing warmth, friendship, empathy and a realistic view of life. It is this that makes a real difference to the lives of the families that we support.”

  • All volunteers receive full training and continued support.
  • Anybody can become a volunteer.
  • Just 2-3 hours per week can make a huge difference to a family’s life.

“Our volunteers are special people,” the spokesperson added.

“Special because they understand how difficult parenting can be. Special in that they want to give their time to make a positive difference to a family.

“The Home-Start Richmondshire team is a close-knit community. We are made up of all different ages and come from all walks of life, but are there to do one thing – offer a friendly helping hand to parents with young children.

“We understand the joys, frustrations and challenges of bringing up children and can help for as long as is needed.”

The charity’s next preparation course begins on March 15.
