Richmondshire communities answer call for litter pickers

Members of the is Sustainable Swaledale group litter picking last year.

Communities across Richmondshire are answering a mass call to grab litter pickers and help clean up the district.

The District Council is supporting the Keep Britain Tidy ‘Great British September Clean’ by offering local groups litter picking kits – grabbers, sacks and fluorescent jackets can be borrowed.

The authority will pick up all collected litter.

So far at least nine litter picks have been organised in Swaledale, Richmond, Middleham, Dalton and Scotton – with more groups expected to sign up.

The campaign replaces the annual spring clean organised by the national group.

It was cancelled due to the pandemic but organisers have warned that this month’s event must be done with restrictions and social distancing measures in mind.
