A scheme that has already paid out almost £206,000 to local community groups is to have its budget doubled.
Richmondshire District Council’s area partnership has helped 359 groups since its launch seven years ago.
Members of the authority’s Corporate Board this week agreed to increase its annual budget to £50,000 – a 50% rise. It means that each of the five partnership areas will have £10,000 to spend.
So far the grants – which have helped to secure over £1.8million in funding for the district – have been awarded to parish councils, community and sports groups for everything from large equipment purchases to smaller community noticeboards.
“By increasing this fund we can help even more groups,” said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.
“The maximum amount we can allocate any one group is £1000 but that can make the difference between a project going ahead or stalling.”
