Richmondshire council leader leads relief aid convoy

A convoy of 11 vans set of for Poland early this morning to take aid to refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The donations were coordinated by a team based at Colburn Village Hall.

More than 1,500 boxes of vital items including food, clothing and medicine are being taken to a distribution depot in Poland.

Richmondshire District Council leader Angie Dale was among the locals who had volunteered to drive a van.

In total, 26 people have volunteered to drive the vans across Europe.

Six of the vehicles have been provided by Garrison Van Hire, with a horse box also among the vehicles making the trip.

More than £4,000 was raised towards fuel for the vehicles by businesses and residents of Northallerton.
