Richmondshire District Councillors have agreed their ‘asks’ to be sent to central government as part of proposals for devolution for the region.
Councillors say devolution could potentially unlock significant investment and give greater powers through an elected mayor and a combined authority.
All district and borough councils in North Yorkshire – plus City of York and North Yorkshire County Council – will be asked to give their approval to the ‘asks’ with members of Richmondshire’s full council leading the way yesterday.
These will then be sent to government to pave the way for devolution discussions to begin.
They include proposals to give greater investment in local transport, housing, town centre regeneration and development, digital connectivity and employability, as we well as the ambition to become the country’s first carbon negative economy.
“This is an important document for the region – and for Richmondshire and it is important that we ensure we have a say in this process and the needs of our district are included,” said council leader, Councillor Angie Dale.
“It will level up investment and give us devolved powers and funding.”
