Play parks across Richmondshire are to get a £400,000 upgrade as part of district council plans to invest in the local communities.
The 69 parks – 25 in district council ownership and the remainder looked after by town, parish and voluntary groups – are all eligible for cash.
Members of the council’s corporate board last night set aside £150,000 for its 25 parks where there has been no significant investment for many years.
The remaining £250,000 goes to the remaining 44 areas – with a maximum of £10,000 for each grant made.
“The play parks all vary in condition and the type of equipment available but what is clear it that they are all in need of significant investment,” said council leader, Councillor Angie Dale.
“Through this scheme and others we are creating we are investing in the heart of our local communities, providing facilities for our young people – a key action in our council and covid recovery plans.”
She said the grants will be available on a first come, first saved basis with schemes needing to be completed within six months.
Applications will open on May 1.
