Richmondshire District Council offers grants to improve heating and insulation

Richmondshire District Council is offering grants to improve heating and insulation in homes this winter.

The Energy Improvement Scheme offers grants for efficient boiler upgrades, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation to qualifying homeowners and private renting tenants.

The scheme aims to help residents reduce their energy bills.

Officials say that in many cases, the grants may cover the full cost of the improvements, helping residents save money in the long term without incurring upfront costs.

Residents that receive certain benefits are likely to qualify for the scheme.

Households with an annual income of under £30,000 may also be able to receive support if anyone living in the property is elderly, a pregnant woman, a young child or has health conditions that are made worse by the cold.

Colin Dales, corporate director for Richmondshire District Council, said: With winter around the corner, we are urging residents to take advantage of our Energy Improvement Scheme to keep warm in their homes.

“The scheme will allow households in the district to get funding for insulation and energy efficient heating systems that will reduce their energy bills as well as their carbon footprint.”

The scheme is being managed by Community Interest Company YES Energy Solutions on behalf of Richmondshire District Council.  Funding is sourced from the Government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme, with additional financial support offered by the council for certain residents.

“Since the scheme started in 2019 the council has allocated £142,000 to it with £45,000 coming from the government’s pot.

Installs are completed by YES Energy Solutions’ network of industry accredited contractors.

  1. Re … the Green Homes Grant … surely this is what we had done 7? years ago. The job was never finished and those residents who got it finished, paid almost £1000 to get it done. Our homes are unsightly because the job wasn’t finished and yet here you are offering it again. If you would like to come and finish our houses that would be great or alternatively, come and take this down and start again!!
