A Richmondshire funeral directors has announced plans which will secure the company’s long-term future and growth.

Richmond-based John Blenkiron & Sons, which operates across the district, celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

In 2018, the family-run firm will open a new chapter in its history when it teams up with Funeral Partners, a leading UK network of funeral directors.

This story continues after the adverts:

John Blenkiron & Sons will continue to be run by James and John Blenkiron, assisted by funeral director and pre-paid funeral planning consultant Carl Tate, together with a team of over ten support staff.

The two brothers are sons of founder John Blenkiron, who started a joinery business in Richmond in 1967, before diversifying into the funeral industry.

The company moved to its current headquarters in the former Richmond Victoria Cottage Hospital building in Queens Road in 2001, and also has premises in Galgate, Barnard Castle, serving communities across North Yorkshire and County Durham.

James said the relationship with Funeral Partners was the next exciting phase in the company’s growth.

“We will be working with the support of Funeral Partners, but locally there will be no change to how we operate,” he said.

“We will continue to be family run – John, Carl and I, and all the staff, will still be available to care for the needs of the bereaved when called upon.

“This new relationship will allow further investment and growth in John Blenkiron & Sons to secure the long term future of the business and create further employment opportunities for local people.”

James said the changes would not affect the quality of service nor the standards of care which the Blenkiron family have worked hard to maintain over the last 50 years.

“People rely on us at a very difficult times in their lives and we take this responsibility very seriously.

“As a local family, our roots are firmly grounded in this region and we aim to continue to look after the needs of the communities we serve for many years to come.”
