Richmondshire is to get a dedicated business advisor to help the district’s economy grow.
Members of the council’s corporate board agreed to part fund the new post which will be spearheaded by the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
The post is one of two new business advisors that will work across the Hambleton, Scarborough, Ryedale and Richmondshire districts.
They will focus on businesses with a turnover of between £1m and £50m that are willing to invest in the growth of their businesses.
Each advisor will work across two areas and will be able to work with up to 100 businesses a year.
Richmondshire will input £10,000 into the scheme for the next two years.
“In larger areas such as Leeds and the Humber there is access to expert impartial advice on how to grow businesses and take advantage of business growth services through growth advisors – but in our rural districts this has been lacking,” said council leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.
“With these new advisors we will plug that gap and give the same level of support of our businesses.
“We have already identified around 121 businesses employing 4000 people that will qualify for help.”
Members of the corporate board gave approval to the council’s £20,000 contribution this week.
