Richmondshire Green Party leaders urge Chancellor to act over climate change

Richmondshire Green Party leaders have urged the Chancellor and Richmond MP Rishi Sunak to act over climate change.

District councillor spoke out as the climate summit, COP26, got underway in Glasgow.

Kevin Foster, Green Party district councillor for Colburn, said tackling the climate crisis would cost money and “our MP, Rishi Sunak, holds the country’s purse strings”.

He added: “Time is running out and we really are in the last chance saloon.

“This is not about empty words and gestures, it’s about action, and we need our government to wake up immediately to the obvious and urgent climate emergency”.

“In a nutshell, it’s now or never.

“It is essential that COP26 succeeds and that we Richmondshire residents ensure that our representative in Parliament helps to make it happen.

“The Government should stop at nothing to make COP26 an international, national and local success.  For us, our children and our grandchildren.
