Richmondshire Leisure Trust cancels Darlington cafe contract

The cafe and bowling green at South Park in Darlington.

Richmondshire Leisure Trust has terminated the contract with Darlington Borough Council to operate the café at Darlington’s South Park.

Richmondshire Leisure Trust took over the café as a year-round business in 2017.

Austin Gordon, leisure trust manager, said trade has been adversely affected by the pandemic and the trustees took the decision to pull out as there was no certainty this would change in the short or medium term

Cllr Andy Keir, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for local services, said the leisure trust had been fortunate to employ hard working, enthusiastic and committed staff that have been the backbone of the service, building excellent rapport with the customers.

“We are grateful to Richmondshire Leisure Trust and its staff for all their hard work at the café over the last three years and would like to thank them for their efforts.

“We will endeavour to secure a new operator to run the café and hope to be able to reopen it to visitors again as soon as possible.”

The last day of trading will be Sunday, September 27.
