Councillors Richard Good, Clive World and Philip Wicks.

The three Liberal Democrats and Green councillor on Richmondshire District Council have agreed to work together.

Kevin Foster, Richmondshire’s first ever Green Party councillor to represent the Green Party will work together with Liberal Democrats councillors Clive World, Richard Good and Philip Wicks.

The group will be called the Liberal Democrats and Greens.

The councillors said that as well as a shared allegiance around supporting the environment and taking action around the “climate emergency”, they had pledged to work with other like-minded councillors to support local businesses and community groups, and to fight for essential services that improve the lives of residents across the district.

Leader of the newly formed group, Cllr World said: “The Liberal Democrats and Green Party at both national and local level are aligned
around the biggest issues of the day.

“We are delighted to be working hand in hand with Kevin to make positive change happen across Richmondshire.”

Cllr Foster added: “I look forward to working with the group to deliver against the agenda I campaigned on.

“My commitment is to improve the lives of residents across the district now and for the future and to tackle the inequality that stems from this Government’s austerity measures.”

After last week’s election, the Conservatives were left with ten councillors, there were ten independents, three Lib Dems and one Green Party councillor.

A meeting between the independent and Lib Dem group leaders and is expected to take place tonight to look at the forming of a coalition to lead the council.
