Richmondshire Orchestra invites audiences to ‘Go Forth…’ with spring concert

Richmondshire Orchestra will welcome the arrival of spring with an uplifting afternoon of orchestral music when it performs its latest concert, Go Forth…, on Sunday, March 22.

The concert at the Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn promises an inspiring programme of powerful and deeply expressive works, opening with Wagner’s dramatic and bombastic Overture to Tannhäuser, a piece renowned for its sweeping themes and sense of journey.

At the heart of the concert are two of the most celebrated soprano works in the orchestral repertoire. Yorkshire soprano Jane Burnell, described as one of the region’s finest vocal talents, will perform Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs, widely regarded as a pinnacle of the soprano repertoire. Jane joins the orchestra from Reisopera in the Netherlands and is known for her expressive performances and rich vocal tone.

The programme continues after the interval with Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, a work that captures the composer’s distinctive style through precise orchestration, lyrical melodies and moments of joyful exuberance. The symphony culminates in a sublime soprano finale, bringing the concert to a gentle yet uplifting close.

Concert organisers say the afternoon has been designed to leave audiences “enchanted and inspired”, offering a musical journey that reflects the optimism and renewal of the spring season.

Concert doors open at 2.30pm, with the performance beginning at 3pm.
