Richmondshire shows support to dementia campaign

Richmondshire District Council is showing its support for a national campaign to raise awareness of dementia.

The week long initiative sees Richmondshire Dementia Action Alliance re-launched as Dementia Friendly Richmondshire.

The new name gives the group the opportunity to extend its work across the district and continue to work towards its ambition to make Richmondshire a more dementia friendly district.

Last year Richmond Pool became the first pool in Yorkshire to achieve dementia friendly status and the group is running organised tours of the facility next week to enable people to see what changes they have made to make it dementia friendly.

Children from St Mary’s Primary School in the town sang at the café memoir session at Richmond Town Hall on Tuesday and there is a dementia awareness session specifically for businesses on Friday, May 24 from 10am to 11am.

“We are really keen to support local businesses in becoming dementia friendly and get involved in its work so we hope lots of people will come along to these sessions to see how easy it is to become dementia friendly,” said Linda Curran, chair of Dementia Friendly Richmondshire.
