Five girls from Richmondshire Rugby Club have attended Yorkshire country trials with one making the squad.

The five competed against around 100 girls from across Yorkshire.

Ellie Southworth made history by becoming the first girl from the club to be selected for the county.

The others who attended were Magda Williams, Emma Hollinshead, Pippa Smith and Jenna Rushforth.

Coach Gary ‘Porky’ Howell said: “All five girls put 100 per cent effort into the trials — the standard was extremely high.

“The girls can hold their head up high they did themselves proud

“All four girls’ coaches would like to thank the parents across both teams.

“The parents are the unsung heroes putting up with the training twice a week and traveling to games particularly on a Sunday morning.

“We have got a great group of parents that get involved and support all the girls so thank you.”
