Richmondshire will continue their defence of the National Club Cup they won in 2108 with a game against Ormskirk CC on Sunday.

Ormskirk who are currently second in the strong Liverpool & District league will be keen to gain revenge for their defeat at the same stage last year.

That game was played over ten overs rather than the full forty, Ormskirk having arrived at Richmond with a coach load of supporters to find a heavy drizzle falling. It was agreed to “get the game on”

In a remarkable match Richmondshire totalled 158-2 in the ten overs. Matty McKiernan, now of Derbyshire, scored an amazing 100 not out with five fours and ten sixes from thirty four balls.

Sadly since achieving his ambition to play County Cricket Matty has been unable to play due to a stress fracture.

Richmondshire currently topping the North Yorkshire South Durham League,  have so far had a series of convincing wins in the National Club Cup. Having beaten North Eastern rivals and past winners South Northumberland, Clifton Alliance and in the previous round  defeating Horwich of the Bolton League by ten wickets.

They will hope to be able to turn out a full strength side with professionals Gary Pratt and Matty McKiernan’s replacement South African Steve Reeves. They will be particularly pleased to welcome back spin bowler Craig Marshall, who missed latter part of last years cup campaign and the first half of this season with a serious knee injury.
