Richmondshire veterans’ pop-up shed goes on tour

Richmondshire’s pop up shed for veterans in the district is taking to the road.

The first outreach session will take place at Catterick Village Sports Pavilion on Wednesday, August 1.

The free sessions – for veterans over the age of 65 who are living within North Yorkshire – will add to the regular slots at the Shed’s base in Richmond.

It will be hosted by award-winning actress and author Irene Lofthouse who will lead a fun creative writing session based loosely on ‘identity’ sharing regional jokes and sayings.

She will start the session in character, portraying Alberta Vickridge, Bradford poet, publisher and VAD nurse in the Great War.

The event – which will run from 10am – 3pm – will also provide a chance to undertake some mosaic tile making.

The Pop up Shed is part of the Healthy Horizons programme which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of veterans over the age of 65 and ex-military people within Richmondshire who may need support and advice.
