Pupils at Risedale School enjoyed a memorable afternoon of music after welcoming two of the UK’s leading classical performers for a special live performance.
Baritone Roderick Williams and accompanist Susie Allan visited the Catterick Garrison school on Thursday as part of a partnership with the Swaledale Festival.
The hour-long interactive event brought together all Year 7 pupils, selected pupils from Years 8 and 9, and GCSE Music students from Year 10.
The audience also included 47 pupils from Hipswell Church of England Primary School and several members of the local community.
School staff said pupils responded enthusiastically to the performance, demonstrating excellent behaviour throughout before taking part in a lively question-and-answer session with the visiting musicians.
The event concluded with flowers being presented to the performers in recognition of their visit and contribution to the school community.
Senior teacher for the expressive arts faculty, Mrs Lumsdon, said: “We are so privileged to host artists of this calibre. It was wonderful to see our pupils rise to the occasion and embrace this world-class opportunity with such open minds.
“Music has a unique power to connect people, and having all the pupils singing along together was a truly magical moment that shows what our Family of Learners is all about. I am incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves.”
The visit formed part of the school’s commitment to broadening cultural opportunities for students and gave young people the chance to experience world-class musicians performing live in their own school.
Staff said the event helped build new relationships through music while encouraging pupils to develop confidence, curiosity and a deeper appreciation of the arts.
