Pupils at Risedale School were given a glimpse into their future careers when the school hosted its annual careers day.
The event, held on Wednesday, saw the school hall transformed into a hub of ambition, with a wide range of local employers and education providers setting up stalls to speak with students from Year 7 through to Year 11.
Armed with thoughtful questions, pupils engaged directly with professionals to learn more about different industries, the roles available and the skills required to succeed in today’s workforce.
Conversations focused not only on job titles but also on transferable skills, entry-level qualifications, apprenticeships and alternative pathways such as T-Levels and further or higher education.
By speaking face-to-face with employers, students were able to gain a clearer understanding of real-world progression routes once they leave school.
The learning did not stop at the exhibition hall. Back in the classroom, pupils took part in structured discussions to reflect on what they had discovered. They explored which organisations had sparked their interest, identified “hidden” roles they had not previously considered and discussed how different career pathways could shape their futures.
Careers Coordinator Mrs Porritt said the day was designed to broaden horizons.
“The event was about more than just looking at jobs; it was about opening doors and broadening horizons,” she said.
“Seeing our pupils engage so confidently with employers — asking about everything from transferable skills to career progression — shows just how ready they are to start thinking about their place in further education and the workforce.
“We want every pupil to leave feeling empowered about their future choices.”
